Electric Bluebird
The electric BLUEBIRD is the fastest electric vehicle in Europe. The present car - the second powered by electricity to be built under the name - holds the UK land speed record for electric vehicles at 137mph, achieved in August 2000 at Pendine Sands, in West Wales. The car, and driver Don Wales, hold another seven class records over a variety of distances.
It is the latest generation in a legendary dynasty that dates back to the 1920s when Sir Malcolm Campbell first adopted the Bluebird name, and which remains the pre-eminent marque in the history of the land speed record.
Like its illustrious predecessors over the past 80 years, the present Bluebird is a ground-breaking project. Its twin brushless DC motors are at the cutting edge of EV technology and it has been the catalyst for the development of Bluebird Automotive's new breed of vehicles that will help to reduce the punishing emissions currently caused by the congestion on our roads.
The car's 48 batteries deliver 600 volts. The three-phase eight-pole motors achieve in excess of 20,000rpm supplying 135bhp to the rear wheels through 6:1 epicyclic reduction gearboxes.
Bluebird is 22'x 4', weighs 850Kg and has a drag coefficient of 0.15Cd
